Third Graders Open a Lemonade Stand

The third graders at St. Justin School recently opened a lemonade stand as a culminating project for a cross-curricular unit on money and entrepreneurship.   In Social Studies they learned about making money choices and how businesses in our community spend and earn money. In Literature they read The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, which taught them the importance of hard work and communication when starting a business. They also incorporated writing and math skills to develop a business plan and utilized their social skills to make sure their business venture was a success. It was a wonderful example of project-based learning.

After two days of selling both lemonade and cookies at lunchtime, they realized how much their hard work had paid off. They raised approximately $400, which they proudly donated to St. Justin’s Community Ministry program, an organization that provides food and necessary supplies to the less fortunate.
