Putting her faith in action, Sophia Rodriguez, 4th grader at St. Justin School, came to Ms. Karen Suty, St. Justin School Principal, with the idea to raise money to help fight cancer.  A TV program she had seen over the weekend inspired her.  She decided to support Leukemia research as it often affected children.  She created her first poster for Ms. Suty’s office door and then set to planning.  Soon four St. Justin friends, Julia Mallari, Ellen So, Ally Hernandez, and Brielle Brady joined her and began planning a fund raising bake sale at the SJS basketball tournament.  The five girls collected baked donations from many 4th grade families. They sold cookies and brownies for $1.00.  They raised over $300 and presented it to Ms. Maribel De La Torre, Sr. Donor Development Manager of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Greater Bay Area Chapter).
