Awards
ABC Award Program – “Living our Faith”
The ABC Awards are comprised of three separate but interdependent elements that reinforce our Catholic values. Students are nominated by their teachers and the awards are presented to students several times during the year. Following is a detailed description about each letter and its meaning.
The “A” stands for Attitude, which can be defined as feelings, thoughts or an approach that each student presents as they move through their academic day. Although the events of the day can have an impact on attitude, it is also the student’s responsibility to own the attitude they present.
The “B” stands for Behavior, which is a collection of actions displayed over time. The student is faced with many circumstances where their behavior has a direct impact on the outcome of a situation.
The “C” stands for Choices, where the student creates a pattern of responses over time to situations they encounter during their time at school. Choosing wisely, especially in controversial situations, significantly contributes to the student’s success.
As you might expect, there is important overlap across these three elements, each contributing to the other. For example, a positive attitude can lead to positive behavior which can then lead to making good choices, finally leading back to a positive attitude. We will award each element individually, but will assist the students in understanding the interdependent nature of each.
Although each element is singularly critical, over time, the combination of Attitude, Behavior, and Choices will have a much bigger impact than any one dimension. The sum is greater than the parts.
